“Fantastic Value”
What a fantastic offer the Hotel are offering. Based on two nights the deal was £45 per room on a B&B basis. We booked a family room for an extra £15 per night for our Daughter. The food deal was £12.95 for two courses or £15.95 for 3 courses. Having stayed many times and having our wedding reception there in 2000, we must say this last may bank holiday weekend was absolutely fantastic value, the room although not a sea view this time were bright, clean, spacious and welcoming. The staff as always cannot do enough to help you enjoy your stay, and children are made to feel very welcome in this beautiful hotel. To top it all off the weather was great too. Really hoping we can book another special rate deal before too long....and to keep the wife sweet have already booked for a great treat over Christmas. The Crosses (May 2013)

“View, Great Staff, Beach, Golf Course”
Wow the staff are friendly. Drove from Heathrow to Portwrinkle just over 3.5 hrs. on roads, did not take car ferry. We got the big room, had a great water view. Staff were friendly telling us how best to get to our friend’s wedding in Plymouth cathedral . They have WI Fi in lounge/ reception area. Just no mobile service Due to solid building. Would come back. Used heated pool, gym and pool table. Like the fact no smoking rooms and that u can bring your dog. Lunch was massive and from £10. Breakfast and dinners are filling, shame dinner closely so early. Golf is not expensive. Staff make u feel at home, always helpful. (April 2013)

“A Lovely and Relaxing Stay”
My husband and I had a great two night stay at the Whitsand Bay hotel in early March of 2013. Though the weather was not amazing, we still went for a bracing walk along the coast, very much enjoying how close the path was to the hotel. We felt we deserved then to relax, and luckily the Whitsand Bay hotel has a range of facilities to help with that. A swim, sauna and steam later, and we were ready to enjoy a meal served by the very friendly hotel staff. All in all, it was exactly what we were after from a relaxing weekend break, and I would love to go back again. (April 2013)

“Short Break”
A great family run hotel. We have stayed here now 5 times and every time we have a wonderful stay with the Phillips family. The service and food is excellent. The new Sauna and steam room are a great improvement. It is an old building with massive windows and our room had a wonderful view out to sea. We love it as it is wonderfully relaxing. The golf course is also great fun, in particular the bomb crater 3rd hole par 3, which I’ve never managed to get close to a par on yet. We love looking at the menu in the morning for the evening meal, and spend all day wondering what we shall pick. If you want to be well looked after and have lovely food, in a great location this is a great place. (Extract April 2013)

“Almost Perfect!”
The hotel location is slightly isolated, but this really adds to the experience. You drive along some winding country roads to look down and see this impressive building in front of you. The hotel sits looking out to sea in a wonderful location. Once inside you start to get the informal aspect of the hotel. The welcome and check in was very friendly and we could clearly see that this informality was the general DNA of the hotel. The golf course is excellent, well looked after with the most amazing views. The pool and spa area is well looked after and does what you would expect. The food was superb. We ate from the set menu on the 1st night and the bistro menu on the 2nd night and both times we were not disappointed. As you would expect there was a good mixture of fish on the menu and all of us found the choice and quality of the food served to be very good. Breakfast was also excellent, you have a choice of fruits, cereals, juices and pastries. Then the breakfast is chosen from the menu and cooked separately. What a nice difference from the 'normal' mass produced hotel breakfast buffets. The rooms we were allocated were on the top floor and had a sea view. Whilst the room was in the attic, it did have three beds (a double and two singles). The service was great and our overall experience was one that we would recommend. (Extract April 2013)

“Best Wedding Ever!”
On April 13th 2013 I married Sam at Whitsand Bay Hotel. Ourselves and 75 guests booked the hotel for the entire weekend and had the most fantastic time. The Wedding Breakfast was absolute quality, the food in the restaurant in the evenings was above reproach and being a family run business, it gave an air of complete friendliness and a lovely warm atmosphere. If you want a wedding of a lifetime, I recommend the Whitsand Bay Hotel and make a weekend of it. There is always the golf if you argue! (April 2013)

'Just What I Needed'
From the moment the hotel loomed out of the sea mist on my arrival I regretted not booking for more than 2 nights. Run by a family, the hotel is grand-looking but has a relaxed informal atmosphere. My room was small but functional and despite being on the top floor water pressure and heat were excellent (I've had trouble elsewhere!). I asked for a sea view and was not disappointed: I have had the best 2 nights of sleep in months as I dozed off to the crashing of the waves on the black rocks. The food was excellent and I felt valued as a guest. The hotel is also very close to a small private beach and the excellent cafe at its foot. The pool is warm and sauna and steam room are good: the only thing missing was a jacuzzi, which would have been lovely to soak in after one of the very long walks which you can take minutes away from Portwrinkle. Thank you to all the staff for helping me have a wonderful relaxed break. I will be back, but for longer next time. (April 2013)

“Easter Break”
Another lovely Easter Break with family and friends. As you approach the Hotel, with the view of the golf course laid out in front of you and the sea in the distance, you instantly feel relaxed and prepared for the superb food, and warm welcome. Whitsand Bay does not disappoint. Already booked for next year (April 2013)

“Super Stay”
Stayed for 2 nights. Weather was kind so managed the coastal walk back from Looe. Couldn’t fault this Cornish gem. Spotlessly clean room. Slept so well. Huge breakfast set you up for the day. Used the warm pool and spa facilities. Wonderful sea views. Loved it and will go again. (April 2013)

“Pure Pleasure”
Our friends got married here over the weekend and we can only say thank you to all the staff at the Whitsand Hotel. Lovely place, nice location, peaceful, clean and very professionally managed. The food was superb and nothing was too much trouble. Even if you do not play golf or have a wedding to attend, we would recommend the Whitsand for weekend getaway. (April 2013)

“Great Golf Break For 3rd Year”
The Brown and Baldwin family returned for the third time for their annual golf 'competition'. As always, we had a wonderful time and, even though the weather was bitterly cold, the golf was excellent if challenging! The Phillips family and all the staff made us very welcome - we always feel it is like home from home, but with fantastic food and great views. The non-golfers made full use of the lovely pool, steam room and sauna. They also spent some very relaxing time in the lounge enjoying the books and game available. Thank you all for another enjoyable, relaxing break. See you all again soon. (April 2013)

“Exceeded Expectations”
What a lovely place and lovely staff. Everyone was really friendly and the service was fab. Stunning location overlooking the sea and although there is no mobile phone reception in the hotel, I really enjoyed being 'cut off' as it were. The bedroom was nicely decorated and yes the bathroom was on the small side but perfectly functional. The food was really tasty and reasonably priced. I have always been a bit put off with the idea of going to family run hotels as I thought that staff might be unintentionally intrusive but I certainly didn’t feel that way here. That said, though we didn't need anything I could tell nothing would have been too much trouble if we had. This hotel is a credit to its owners and I have recommended it to all my family already and I'm sure we'll be back! Many thanks (April 2013)

“A Warm Family Welcome”
We honeymooned at this hotel 5 years ago and came back for a nostalgic visit. It is old fashioned in all the right ways. The hotel is family friendly and dog friendly. Its location is divine and the food was excellent. There is such a warm relaxing atmosphere and we plan to return ASAP. Many Thanks (April 2013)

“Great Venue and Location...”
We had a great 2 nights at this lovely hotel. It is everything it claims to be. We were at the top of the building as we had been moved to a larger room because we were bringing a dog. Although it wasn't as good as the sea view rooms on the floor below, it was fine. The staff were all friendly and the ambience was perfect. We will be back (April 2013)

“Lunch Time Visit”
Over the last twelve months we've attended on three separate occasions different restaurants on the Plymouth Barbican, the meals were appalling. This wasn't the case when we had a three course meal at Whitsand Bay Hotel, it was excellent. (March 2013)

“Relaxing Luxury Break with Fine Dining - and Kids!”
Our 3 night family break was an absolute dream. So much so that we extended it. Tracey, Paul and the rest of the family really made sure that our children (age 6 & 8) as well us were made welcome and they went out of their way to ensure that everyone was catered for; whether heating up the night time milk or finding somewhere for sandy wet suits to rinse and dry or lending a few toys to play with. The highlight for us was the food. It was fabulous and once again the children were treated like proper guests and offered anything from the menu. My children eat a wide variety of food - including seafood and it was an absolute delight that they could have these things but in a child friendly form ie without sauces or dressings if they wished. So often many establishments only cater minimally for children ie nuggets and burgers but here they were encouraged t eat well be the flexibility offered. Cornish crab and chips or gravlax in a pitta anyone? Our family room was great; nicely furnished and had a bath as well as a shower and despite not having a sea view (when would you have time to sit and look at it with two children?) we felt it was light and airy. If want to feed your children earlier they offer baby monitors so you can then go and eat with the grown ups later in the evening - or just have a drink in the bar once your little angles are asleep. The lounges and dining areas are very elegant yet again the children were made very welcome. Especially first thing in the morning still in their pyjamas. A really gorgeous hotel with the relaxed feel of a family home. Brilliant. (Reviewed March 2013)

“Fabulous Stay Once Again!”
We returned to the whitsand bay hotel once again this year after a fantastic weekend break last year. You always think when you've had a lovely time previously, was it just a one off? Can they meet the expectation again? Well, they did!!! It was even better than before. Our stay from start to finish was great. Warm and friendly staff, spacious room, stunning views, superb food (breakfast to die for!) The hotel is clearly family run as it has that warm feel about it, but yet it is a well oiled ship and everyone remains professional, family or not. It is so nice to see a family run business being run by a family, they all work so hard but are always happy to be of service, nothing too much trouble. This is a lovely hotel, great location, stunning food but what really made it for us is the care that the family and staff take of you as guests. Can't wait to come back once again! (March 2013)

“EXCELLENT!”
12 of us have just (sadly!) returned from a wonderful 2 night 'scrapbooking' break. This is the second year we have visited and have already booked for next year - I think that says it all really! Great food, rooms, staff, pool area, atmosphere and location (not listed in any particualr order!!). We LOVED the room made available for our crafting sessions; it suited out needs perfectly. The hotel has one of the best breakfast selections I have had the pleasure of sampling and nothing seems too much trouble. We have all returned home feeling very relaxed and a fair bit 'fatter'! Can't wait for next year! Thank you to everyone at the hotel. (March 2013)

“Local Getaway”
Have just returned from the most wonderful 2 day stay at Whitsand Bay Hotel. We went with friends and the 4 of us could not fault a single thing from the ambience of the hotel, the friendly and polite staff. The meals were sublime and so beautifully presented. We didn't use the indoor leisure facilities so cannot make a comment but we did have 2 rounds of golf, a tricky course and quite tiring but most enjoyable. The bedrooms were spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Bed linen and towels were luxury. All in all a fabulous time was had by the 4 of us. Thankyou to Groupon for sourcing this hotel and to the Phillips family for all their hard work in making guests so welcome and well fed and watered. (March 2013)

“Another Lovely Stay”
Stayed for a two night break - wanted some peace and relaxation and this hotel is perfect. Looking out over the sea on a quite coast road, lovely leisure facilities and very good dining. Second visit and it did not disappoint. Room was big, comfortable bed, period furniture and lovely sea views. Shower room was small but it meant that the integrity of the original bedroom was maintained. Dining from Bistro menu was good and excellent value. We don't play golf but the walking from here is very good around Rame Head or over the cliff path to Seaton or Looe. Thank you again. Room Tip: Sea view rooms - sleep with the curtains open wake up and watch the sun rise over Whitsand Bay (March 2013)

“Excellent Value”
We took my daughter here for a midweek lunch, it was offering 2 courses for £10. There was plenty of choice on the menu and we were more than surprised at the amount of food for £10, excellent value ...excellent food ...& good service in beautiful surroundings. The restaurant is overlooking the bay, with ample parking. All tables laid beautifully & you could sit in the lounge after your meal & have free tea & coffee. What more could you ask for? (Feb 2013)

“Hidden Cornwall”
We spent two nights at this hotel. The inside has had a lot of money spent on it and the huge stained glass window on the stairs is magnificent. We had room 1 which had windows overlooking the sea on two sides and this was warm and comfortable. There is a golf course which we did not use but the sports centre with steam room, sauna and swimming pool was delightful. The food was very good value and well presented. (Extract Feb 2013)

“Short Break”
We were very pleased with the location right on the beach .We took our dog with her cage for her to sleep in and liked seeing other well behaved dogs around and welcomed. The food was good and excellent value. We were going to eat out but after looking at the menu and prices we ate at the hotel on both nights. Friendly, family run hotel and friendly staff. (Feb 2013)

“A Blue Skies Break”
We have just returned from a 2 night break at this charming hotel. We had booked using a Groupon voucher so we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to find such a lovely hotel in such a super position. We paid a supplement to have a sea view {room 8} and it was well worth it as the views of the Bay and sea were fantastic. We chose to eat in on both nights and were impressed both with the quality and the value of the meals. There was a wide range of choices for each course. The breakfasts were excellent with all tastes being catered for. We were blessed with perfect weather for our stay and so we were able to explore the coastal paths. The atmosphere in the hotel was relaxed and friendly. The pool, sauna and steam room were an added bonus. We look forward to a return visit. (Feb 2013)

“Fantastic”
I got married at this hotel and the majority of my guests stayed for either one or both of the nights, they expressed their great satisfaction and delight of the food and service they received. All I can say about the wedding day is WOW!!!! The best day of my life. (Feb 2013)

“Very Welcoming”
We stayed here for two nights on a groupon deal with our dog (very dog friendly place). We had a great break - very peaceful, warm and welcoming hosts and staff, great food and drink at reasonable prices and really good service. This place really is a hidden gem and has great charm which I think is mainly to do with how it is run. We will definitely be returning. Thank you - Mat & Joan (Feb 2013)

“Fantastic Hotel”
We have just returned from a most relaxing break at this hotel.
We needed to 'get away' in search of peace and quiet and this hotel certainly looked after our every need. The hotel is in a beautiful location overlooking the sea. After a walk along the beach we enjoyed a cream tea which was 'to die for' with home made warm fruited scones. The 'Cornish breakfast' was cooked to perfection and dinner in the hotel was both reasonably priced with plenty of choice and very tasty. There are also great leisure facilities including a gym, sauna, steam room and swimming pool. We plan to return as soon as we can and cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Thank you so much to the Phillips family and their caring helpful staff for a fantastic break (Feb 2013)

“Groupon Two Night Break”
My wife and I have just returned from a two night stay at this hotel which we discovered through the Groupon site.We had a wonderful experience. The building is bursting with character and we felt transported back in time to a more elegant and genteel age.The views over the sea were stunning.Despite the grandeur the atmosphere was warm and welcoming due,in the main, to the attitude of the owners' family and staff.Helen, on reception, has to be singled out for particular praise. We dined at the hotel on both evenings and the food was both delicious and reasonable;the service attentive but not intrusive. The breakfast exceeded both our expectations.Despite the chilly weather our room was consistently warm and inviting. We were both tempted to use the swimming pool and found it modern, clean and warm. The sauna and steam room added to our feeling of well-being.Well worth a visit if you relish peace and quiet or long to play golf on the beautifully maintained course. (Feb 2013)

“3rd Visit & Still Improving”
3 star hotel, with 18 hole golf course. Location is quiet with nothing more than sea and coastal walks. The hotel appears austere from the outside but inside it has beautifully polished wood, quiet lounges, bar, bistro, restaurant, indoor swimming pool, sauna. Bedrooms are "creaky" but clean and many have a sea view, we were on the 2nd floor which involved lots of steps to be climbed, sadly no lift so not really accessible to people who rely upon a wheelchair. Overall the staff were welcoming. On this occasion we stayed bed and breakfast tariff which was very reasonable. The breakfast was well cooked and ample for the biggest of appetites. The evening meal was superb lots to choose from, and served efficiently. The owners (family owned hotel) were courteous and engaged all the residents in conversation. The lounge area was cosy (just like being at home) and if you were unable to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet there are board games and loads of books to borrow. Drinks were reasonably priced. Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room - its worth paying a little extra. All rooms are quiet. (Extract Feb 2013)

“Whitsand Bay”
Visiting Whitsand Bay has now become an annual visit. Not only is the location wonderful but the welcome we get is second to none. It's a family run hotel and when you visit you actually feel part of the family. The rooms are very spacious and many of them have sea views. There is also an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and gym. You could even try your hand at golf on the golf course, which has some wonderful views. Whatever the weather you will find something to do. An afternoon playing games and eating cream teas looking across the bay is a great tonic. If you are looking for a high quality hotel with fabulous food and a very warm welcome look no further. Highly recommended. (Feb 2013)

“Just a meal not a stay but it was wonderful”
We booked a Bistro special on a Friday night and we were pleased to see the restaurant and hotel full !! This is a real boost for the small local business. Have lived most of our lives in the area and never visited here before so this was a first for us. The service was excellent, wine list variable and exceptional value for money. The menu was wide and varied and proved to be good value, tasty and well presented. The food was definitely home cooked, my husband had the lambs liver and bacon and commented he could have eaten a second plate of it as it was so tender and tasty. I had the slow cooked pork belly which was succulent, moist and very tasty. Tea and coffee afterwards included in the price was taken in the lounge. We are looking forward to visiting here more often as it is not often you can eat out in a restaurant with great service, includes bread and butter with your starter. Thanks for a great night. (Jan 2013)

“Great Value for Money”
My wife and I booked this hotel using a Groupon voucher. We arrived on an extremely cold Friday afternoon but were given a very warm welcome at reception. Our room was on the second floor and as soon as we opened the door the room was somewhat cooler than we would consider comfortable, we asked at reception if they had another room free but unfortunately the answer was no, they did offer a portable heater which was brought up very promptly and within 30 mins the room was warm and comfortable, it was also very clean. We ate in the restaurant on the first night of our stay, the food was pleasant and the waiters were friendly. Breakfast was very nice a good selection of fruits etc, a nice Cornish cooked breakfast and quick and friendly service. We never used the pool area, but did have a look and it seemed to be clean and user friendly. All in all it was a very nice friendly place to spend the weekend and I would not hesitate in recommending it to others. (Jan 2013)

“Love it!”
This is our 2nd stay at this hotel and this time we brought our children and 6 friends with us! The children had a fantastic time in the pool, in the games room and playing board games in the lounge-not to mention playing on the beach. The 3 males in our group and the 4 children all played golf and loved it. One of us had a very relaxing massage and one of us walked the coastal path to Downderry. There was definitely something for everyone. The food and service were excellent and the hotel has a lovely relaxed feel. Views and general location are stunning and basically we didn't want to leave! We're thinking of getting married there next and bringing a few more people! (Jan 2013)

“Excellent Again”
Even though we have been to this hotel before it was a very enjoyable return. All staff were friendly and cheerful. Food was good and room was very clean. We upgraded to a seaview room which was great as the weather was not too kind to us so we could sit in our room and have a great view (Jan 2013)

“Welcoming Edwardian Elegance & Family Values”
We have just had 2 nights as a family to get away after all the Christmas rush before we begin a new year of work and the hotel provided an elegant relaxing atmosphere with a very comfortable family welcome. It retains its wonderful Edwardian character and the 3 generations of Philips family who run it offer a welcome that is not too formal and really helps maintain the relaxed mood - including the lovely old Labrador. Over our final breakfast (great choices - the local Kippers are particularly good) we realised we had really relaxed as the family had not left the hotel one day during the stay - and that’s with 2 teenagers. It is just 5 minutes from the beach - lots of rock pools and good walks along the coast if you want them. We don't play Golf, but the attached course is obviously popular. The lounge just invites you to sink into a sofa and take in the marvellous view from the cliff top position over the bay - well worth the extra for the sea view from a room. The beds were very comfortable with lovely crisp linen and the 2 sea view rooms we booked were spacious with a comfy armchair in the window so you can just sit and look at the sea. The food is very well cooked and presented - and good value (Dinner for 3 courses about £15, lunch a little less and there are bar snacks too) with a wide selection of dishes per course. We also enjoyed the indoor pool and the steam rooms and sauna - far too relaxed to use the small gym! There were couples and families staying and it still retained a quiet feel - the only distractions were the many and varied board games - and that view. You get the impression the family running it are pleased to help you if you just want to ask for something. Quite a special place with such values nowadays. (Extract Jan 2013)

“A Wonderful Break”
I booked this hotel through an offer with Groupon. It was my partners birthday and we took our 5 year old daughter along with friends and their son for a long weekend. We pulled up on a stormy Friday night and was given a very warm welcome by the staff. We sat in the bar to wait for our friends and the staff were extremely friendly and fun. The hotel in owned and run by 3 generations and this alone made the experience a very personal and top notch service as they were eager to please. Our daughter made friends with the grand children who took her under their wing and played hide and seek in this lovely old building. You would normally expect a stuffy and formal atmosphere with a building like this, but it was quite the opposite and children were very welcomed by the owners. The leisure area was very clean with a lovely sauna and steam room. Our daughter spent many hours in here with her new friends. The location is stunning with easy access to the coastal path either way. The food was also good and being a fussy vegetarian this this is a rarity. Excellent value and service - can't fault it. We've had many weekends away around the South West and this was one of the best. Keep up the good work. (Jan 2013)

“Very Pleasant Stay”
We stayed for 2 nights midweek as we had a wedding in Polhawn fort which is 15 minutes away. The Edwardian building has kept its character and was very welcoming. The bedrooms vary in size, but are very clean and comfortable. There were 9 of us staying and found them very good. Some had twins, others double and one was a large room in the eaves which slept four. Obviously there is no lift in a building of this era, but the stairs are very wide and easy to negotiate, but the second floor is not for the unfit. You can upgrade to a sea view room which have some larger rooms with sofas. The lounge area downstairs was really nice to relax or have coffee in ,and have a chat. Lots of comfy settee and chairs. There is also a nice bar if you want bar meals or a restaurant. We had sandwiches there but did not eat in the evening as we were going to the wedding, but the meals looked really good. The breakfast was great with a choice of cereals, fruit etc. and very nice full English or various combinations. We were well looked after at reception and all the staff were very good to us. I would think it would be lovely to visit on a summer s day as the views are lovely. (Jan 2013)

“Fab Crab”
We popped in for a late lunch on 3rd January. We were slightly too late for lunch in the restaurant but they clearly value our custom over the chefs working hours! We were given a very nice table with super-slick friendly service. The waiting staff were just lovely. Crab salad to start followed by liver and bacon and lemon tart to finish. The crab was beautiful. everything was exellent (Extract Jan 2013)

“Relaxing Short Break”
Have just returned from a 2 night stay which we thoroughly enjoyed. Very relaxing short break. Well worthy of it's Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence. Fantastic selection of food available for breakfast and dinner. Great value for money. Very friendly and helpful staff. (Jan 2013)
